The outcome

By the time you finish, this is just how you build.

Stock you can trust

Turn a rough, twisted board into dead-flat, square stock: the foundation every good piece is built on.

Three joints, any build

A reinforced butt joint, a mortise and tenon, and a housed joint: enough to build most furniture.

Glue-ups that stay square

Rehearse the assembly, read your diagonals, and clamp a case that comes out true instead of racked.

A finish worth touching

Prep a surface a finish will love, then wipe on a durable hardwax-oil without blotches or streaks.

Elias Thorne

Furniture maker & founder of Thornwood Workshop

Elias has spent fourteen years building furniture out of a two-car garage, from first cutting boards to commissioned tables, and shares every mill, joint, and glue-up with a following of makers who want to build things that last. Thornwood Workshop is where he teaches the exact, unhurried system that turns rough lumber into furniture you’d hand down.

What makers say

Loved by garage woodworkers.

Illustrative reviews, written for this demo, not real customers.

★★★★★
I’ve owned a jointer for two years and never trusted my stock. The milling sequence finally made it click: my first four-square board didn’t rock at all. Every project since has just gone together.

★★★★★
The “wood moves” lesson explained why my last tabletop cracked. I built the Shaker side table over three weekends in a one-car garage and it’s the first thing I’ve made that I’m genuinely proud of.
Priya A.
★★★★★
No fluff, no thousand-dollar tool list. Elias shows you the three joints and how to keep them square, and that’s honestly most of furniture. Wish I’d found this before buying gear I never use.

Questions

Before you start.

Do I need a shop full of machines to start?

No. The core of the course (reading wood, milling true, and three reliable joints) can be done with a modest kit, and Module 2 shows how to flatten a board by hand or with a router sled if you don’t own a jointer. You add tools as your projects ask for them, not before.

I only have a garage or a corner of the basement. Is this for me?

Absolutely. The whole course is built around a small shop. Module 6 is specifically about getting real, safe work done in a garage bay or a corner: layout, dust, and working calmly in a tight space.

Is this beginner-friendly?

It’s built for beginners, in order: understand wood movement, read a board, mill it true, cut three joints, glue up flat, finish it. Experienced hands use it to fix one weak link, usually milling or glue-ups, and skip ahead.

How long do I have access?

Forever. It’s lifetime access, so you can work through it at your own pace, come back before a new build, and re-watch any lesson whenever you like.

What if it’s not for me?

Start the course, finish the first module, and if it’s not worth it, email for a full refund. No hard feelings.

A piece you’d hand down is a few lessons away.
